Cardiogen.

Heart-specific cytoprotective peptide

How it works

Class & mechanism.

In short

Cardiogen is a synthetic 4-amino-acid tetrapeptide developed within the Khavinson bioregulator system, studied for its proposed cardiac cytoprotective effects — supporting cardiomyocyte survival and reducing fibrotic scarring after cardiac injury. Evidence comes primarily from preclinical rat studies and decades of Russian clinical use, with no independent Western human pharmacokinetic data or regulatory approval. It sits at Tier-C on our evidence scale: mechanistically plausible but backed by a thin, geographically limited evidence base.

Cardiac Bioregulator Peptide

Mechanism

Cardiogen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Arg, AEDR) is a synthetic tetrapeptide bioregulator proposed to enter the cell nucleus and bind to DNA-associated proteins, upregulating genes responsible for cardiomyocyte survival, cytoskeletal proteins (actin, vimentin, lamin A/C), and extracellular matrix repair — per the Khavinson gene-switching model. In preclinical rat studies, it suppressed p53 protein expression in cardiac tissue, which is thought to inhibit apoptosis in stressed cardiomyocytes and promote proliferation of cardiac progenitor cells. It is also proposed to down-regulate pathological fibroblast maturation, potentially reducing scar formation and fibrotic remodeling after ischemic injury — though no human mechanistic studies confirm this pathway.

Did you know

Cardiogen doesn't just repair the heart — in rat sarcoma models it appeared to selectively trigger cancer cell death in tumors while simultaneously protecting cardiac cells from dying, suggesting a mechanism that 'reads' cell health context before deciding whether to save or destroy.

What we don't know

No PK studies in any species. Tetrapeptide size suggests rapid absorption and clearance. The gene-switching mechanism, if operative, would produce effects that outlast plasma PK by days to weeks — making conventional PK characterisation less relevant to dosing strategy.

Why this dosing protocol

Standard bioregulator protocol: 5-10mg SC daily for 10-30 days, repeated 2-3× per year. Used in Russian cardiology for post-MI recovery and age-related cardiac decline. Often combined with other Khavinson peptides in comprehensive longevity protocols.

Empirical protocol: 5-10mg SC daily × 10-30 days

Safety notes

  • Russian-only data
  • Cardiac safety in Western populations unknown

Benefits

What it does.

01

In preclinical rat studies, Cardiogen reduced cardiomyocyte apoptosis by down-regulating p53 expression in myocardial tissue

02

May promote cardiac progenitor cell proliferation and support myocardial regeneration after injury, based on rat cardiac tissue studies (effects seen in both young and old animals)

03

Reported in Russian clinical literature to support healthy blood pressure, with 5–15 mmHg systolic reductions observed during long-term clinical use — the underlying mechanism has not been independently confirmed

04

May help reduce inflammatory signaling and oxidative stress in cardiac tissue, consistent with the broader Khavinson bioregulator model, though specific biomarker data (CRP, IL-6) for Cardiogen has not been independently verified

05

May help slow age-related cardiac decline by supporting gene expression patterns associated with cardiomyocyte survival, based on preclinical studies showing effects in both young and old rat cardiac tissue

What this does not mean

Cardiogen is a research chemical. The information on this page is educational and does not constitute medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Cardiogen is not FDA-approved for treating cardiac conditions, blood pressure, or any other use, and has no independent Western clinical or pharmacokinetic data — available evidence comes primarily from preclinical rat studies and Russian clinical literature. This page does not recommend, endorse, or prescribe any compound for human use. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making health decisions. Personalized Peptides provides DNA-driven educational context and test interpretation — not clinical protocols or pharmaceutical recommendations.

Protocol

How to use it.

Dosing

Injectable: 5–20 mcg subcutaneously per day, or every other day, as used in research protocols. Oral capsule forms (where available): 20–80 mg/day divided into 1–2 doses with meals. Protocols are typically 10–30 day cycles.

Cycle

Standard cycle: 10–14 days on, repeat 2–4 times per year for maintenance or preventive use. Post-cardiac-event protocols may extend to 20–30 days. Allow 1–3 months between cycles.

Contraindications

When to skip it.

No significant toxicity reported in available research. Use with caution in patients on anticoagulants or anti-hypertensives (additive effects possible). Not FDA-approved; research-grade only. Avoid in pregnancy (insufficient data). Consult physician before combining with cardiac medications.
